CrossFire is a piece of gaming software that pits you and a team of peers against an opposing faction of fighters via an FPS (First Person Shooter) interface. The game takes place online to allow for true multiplayer experiences.

Once the game has been successfully installed, you must select a character and a user name. The installation process can take some time, but don't be discouraged. If you have a powerful system, the game should install and run relatively quickly.

When selecting a character, you'll have three options. The first is a United States S.W.A.T. officer, the second is a British SAS agent, and the last is a Russian OMOH fighter. Beyond the character selection, you'll also be given a number of firearms to choose from. You might notice the menus for these options are a little complex, so don't feel the need to focus too heavily on those areas unless your goal is to learn everything about the game.

After you've selected your user name, character, and weapons, you'll be given a list of active servers where you could play. You'll simply select a server that seems acceptable to you, and you'll be logged in to that server. You'll now see a full list of current games on the server, and you can make your own if you don't see one to your liking.

There are four modes of play in CrossFire. The first is Team Death Match, which is probably the most popular option. In Team Death Match, the two teams have no objective but to kill the enemy players. The other game modes include Elimination, Search and Destroy, and Ghost. Ghost mode is possibly the most intriguing and creative game type. In Ghost mode, one team is tasked with protecting their target, and the other team is tasked with destroying it. The catch is that the team seeking to destroy the target is fully cloaked and armed only with knives. The goal is to use cunning and sneakiness to avoid detection.

It should come as no surprise that the most popular mode is Team Death Match. The shooting action of a quick-paced game like this brings out the soldier in everyone, and the standard FPS controls are reliable and precise.

One thing that stands out about CrossFire from a potentially negative standpoint is the graphics. It's clear the game was developed many years ago, but the visuals are still adequate. These slightly below-par graphics help make the game easier to run on older PCs, and newer systems should have no trouble with the game at all. Considering the fact this game is an online multiplayer game that costs nothing, it's way ahead of the curve. You'll be immersed in the gameplay thanks to the realistic sound effects and captivating pace. Few free online FPS games can match the playability and addictive nature of CrossFire.

The first person shooter that became a worldwide sensation.

CrossFire was created by SmileGate and published by Neowiz. It is a first-person shooter game you can play on Microsoft Windows. The first release date was May 3, 2007, though you will see numerous releases after that date as the game has been frequently updated. The Korea Herald claimed that in 2014 the game was worth $1.3 billion. Since it started in 2007, it has earned over $4.5 billion revenue, and there have been as many as 50 million active users at one time.

What Weapons Can You Use

The weapons are pretty conventional. There is nothing experimental, futuristic or alien. Each weapon belongs to a category that is present in the game, and each is based on real-life models. Certain modes have mode-exclusive weapons. The weapons you may use include:

  • Machine guns
  • Grenades
  • Submachine guns
  • Sniper rifles
  • Shovels
  • Flashbangs
  • Smoke grenades
  • Assault Rifles
  • Shotguns
  • Combat axes
  • Knives
  • Fisticuffs
  • Pistols

The weapons also perform the same as they would in real life. For example, a pistol is easy to use and great for close combat, as is the shotgun, but the shotgun is poorer at longer distances.

The Modes You Can Play In

There are a lot of modes in CrossFire, and each of the modes has different maps and playing rules. The aim is to seek out and destroy your opponents, and the fun thing is that you can do it in teams or on your own. Some of the modes are quite creative. For example, there is a zombie mode where you start with a lot of health and have to infect other people and absorb dead zombies in order to mutate. There are also more commonly seen modes such as the team death match or elimination mode.

Referenced In Futurama

The game that some of the Futurama cast play is called “of World of World War II 3.” it is believed to be the 3011 version of CrossFire as it plays in a very similar manner. It also uses the types of weapons we use today, though it also features Nazi Germans (for comic effect). There is also a joke about the cast members Bender & Cubert, as well as Igner, Larry and Walt being beaten by “A couple of Korean girls.” This is an insider joke for Crossfire players.

It firstly references the fact that the game CrossFire was created in South Korea, and secondly references the fact that there are so many fantastic players in Asia that even young girls are beating the best that the US has to offer.

If You Haven’t Tried It…Then Do!

The game is free to play, and there is not a big learning curve. Sure, you will learn a few new manoeuvres and tactics as you go along, but to start with, all you have to know is how to point and shoot. The game is free to play, which means if you don’t like it then don’t play it. The most annoying part is simply the fact that some people have spent months building up their experience and are very good to the point where they will murder you--but they have to sleep some time. If your gamer’s ego can withstand the occasional bruising, then you may learn to love this game.

Cross Fire is a first-person shooter game that includes action sequences taking place on realistic battlefields. Fans of Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, and similar games will like this one just as much as those other games.

Though the download and installation times for this game are a little long, many players don't mind waiting because they love playing it so much. The first time you play, you need to choose a side to join. You can play as a SWAT officer from America, an OMOH soldier from Russia, or an SAS officer from Britain. The character you play will determine your overall story line and the type of weapons you can choose. While you can change characters later, you generally want to choose one you feel comfortable playing for the first few levels.

Cross Fire is an online multi-player game that asks you to choose the type of game you want to play before selecting a battle to join. Team Death Match puts you on a team and asks you to play against another online team. Instead of bringing you back to life after you die, the game only ends when one team eliminates all the players on the other team. You'll usually find more people on the Team Death Match servers than the other servers.

Search and Destroy is another option. This level gives you a series of objectives that include specific items and locations you must find on the map. You'll get points each time a teammate destroys one of those objects. The game also includes an elimination mode that asks your team to slowly eliminate players on the other team and a ghost mode. In ghost mode, one of the two teams play as characters covered in cloaks. Instead of using guns, they use knives to dispatch other players. If you play on the other team, you must kill those cloaked characters before they can kill you.

You start out at a lower rank, but the game lets you move up through the ranks as you complete missions and score more points. It's much easier to advance through the lower levels than the upper levels. You may notice that some servers operate slower than others and that you can only gain access to some levels and weapons through game points that you buy with real cash. If you can get over those flaws and the somewhat outdated graphics though, you'll find a fun and challenging game in Cross Fire.

Pros

  • Can play on standard computers and does not require a gaming rig
  • Features lots of weapons
  • Can play on multiple servers
  • Has four game modes
  • Challenging enough for all players

Cons

  • Graphics are a little outdated
  • Requires spending real money to unlock some levels and weapons
  • Some games take longer to load
  • Not all servers are as active as others
  • Takes time to move up through the ranks
